As we make our journey through high school, we often become increasingly lazier as we reach the later years of 12 and 13, whilst, ironically these are the hardest years for us to get through and the ones we need to focus in the most. Many of us begin missing classes, others don’t come to school for days and some drop out of school completely. It is natural to become lazier as we reach these later years because we have become so bored with the ever repeating school system and we tend to spend most of our spare time hanging out with friends or watching Netflix. However, as I am advancing towards my very final days of high school, I have realised how important it is to make use of this time and above all, use this time to get a part time job. This is because, I have learned since I have begun working the amount of life skills that it teaches you as well as a plethora of reasons on why it will help in the long and short term of your life. This is why every teen should have a part time job in high school.
Today’s workforce is becoming increasingly more difficult to enter as our modern day employers are looking for things that stand out across there pools of candidates. University is no longer cutting it as it is becoming accessible to everyone, with it even being free in some places, and so as employees we need to think better on how to stand out. This is a key role of a part time job as it marks a precedent for the employer to look at and understand how you might be better than the twenty other John’s applying for the job. Getting and holding a part time job shows you as a clearly competent person in having time management, responsibility and commitment. These are absolutely vital to the employer as they demonstrate how you will be able to add to the company and promote an essential employer-employee relationship that will give you a much more enjoyable time in the workforce.
But, your future development is not the only aspect a part time job has going for it. It will help you profoundly in your short term life at high school and your next few years through university. Having a part time job means that you are making use of your spare time and it will discourage laziness from occuring in your daily routine as you have to keep to a set timetable. As a naval captain once said, “Upon completion of your first task, the second task will come with ease”, meaning that completing our daily objectives will inspire us to continue working hard in other areas of our life such as study. Even holding a job that is simply four hours of work a week still means that you have something to stick to each week, outside of our necessary education and as stated before, it will give each individual a true sense of responsibility.
Finally, a part time job gives you an abundance of skills that you can take with you for the rest of your life. Depending on what industry you decide to go into with your part time job ranging from hospitality to retail, they will all give you something to take with you such as customer service skills and dealing with finances, which will all become vital as you progress through life. I truly believe that having a part time job is one of the most important parts of entering true adulthood as you begin to truly understand what your future will be like. Everyone is capable of getting a part time job and whilst it may take a few tries and a few applications to get one, it will happen eventually.
Go out and find what part time job suits you.
