Kiwi actor Duane Evans Jr has joined James Cameron’s Avatar sequels.

20th Century Fox revealed today the 10-year-old Shortland Street star will play Rotxo, a young member of the oceanic Metkayina clan.

The announcement revealed a number of young actors have joined the franchise as Pandora’s next generation in the upcoming sequels, which began production on Monday.

The young actors will play children of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana), as well as the children of the Metkayina, led by Tonowari (Cliff Curtis).

Playing the Sully family will be Jamie Flatters as Neteyam, Britain Dalton as Lo’ak, and Trinity Bliss as Tuktirey.

Bailey Bass and Filip Geljo also play young members of the Metkayina, while Jack Champion will portray a human teenager born at Hell’s Gate, the military base seen in the first film.

Director James Cameron has written scripts for four Avatar sequels, the first of which is scheduled to be released on December 17, 2020.
